Abstract:
This subject provides an introduction to theory and practice in the leadership role of a teacher librarian. Leadership is examined in the current global context of change and reform in school library organisation and services. Evolving views of educational leadership are examined with a particular emphasis on organisational culture, strategic planning, the management of change and developing relationships within a 21st century school culture of inquiry.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to identify pathways to building capacity for the development of leadership roles in schools through the delivery of the school's information services and the work of the teacher librarian;
- be able to relate issues in leadership theory and the decision-making process to the teacher librarian's role in the school;
- be able to demonstrate an awareness of the principles and methods of strategic planning for change and identify the role of the teacher librarian within these processes;
- be able to develop a mission statement and identify objectives / outcomes for the delivery of the school's information services; and
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of leadership within the context of a 21st century school culture of inquiry.
