Abstract:

This subject introduces students to the principles and processes of describing and analysing information within the school context. It examines traditional and emerging means of providing access to learning resources. While the focus is on the school situation, broad principles applying to a variety of information environments are drawn upon.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

- appreciate the importance of effective organisation of information resources for successful information retrieval;
- understand the relationship between information retrieval systems and the description and analysis of information resources;
- have acquired a practical understanding of some pertinent metadata standards and schema.
