Abstract:
This subject considers environmental legislation, regulatory bodies
and methods for disposal of waste especially those arising from
food processing industries

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
* be familiar with state and federal environmental legislation;
* understand the role of regulatory bodies in pollution control and waste management;
* be familiar with the development application process for a food processing facility;
* appreciate the requirements of a statement of environmental effects;
* be able to conduct a waste audit of a food processing facility;
* be familiar with the major forms of waste management techniques used for both liquid and solid wastes;
* be able to use basic techniques for the assessment of biological and chemical pollution;
* has an appreciation of bio-efficiency and cleaner production issues
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
