Abstract:
This subject examines the different approaches to integrity assurance and corruption prevention and highlights the suitability of different approaches for particular challenges arising within the context of organisational corruption. It also includes an examination of post incident strategy and restorative approaches as well as pressures involved in building organisational resilience to corruption. It provides an overview and understanding of the main approaches to reducing corruption and ensuring public sector integrity. It focuses on both proactive and reactive measures. Trends in the use of coercive and intrusive techniques of investigation will be considered, as well as the emergence of specialised anti-corruption bodies. Challenges faced by those working in anti-corruption and integrity assurance will also be addressed

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate familiarity with the different approaches to corruption prevention and integrity assurance
- be able to develop an appreciation of the pressures and barriers involved in building resilience within an integrity assurance work environment
- be able to conduct research on at least one area of corruption prevention and integrity assurance, and provide a written analysis of the key issues and challenges arising in that area
- be able to show through assessment tasks an increased ability to think critically about corruption and integrity assurance issues including an ability to develop strategies to effectively manage these issues
- be able to critically assess the effectiveness of anti corruption bodies and frameworks
