CSU Discipline Area: Design and Visual Production (DSVIS)

Abstract:

This studio will explore the fundamentals of Design. Initial studies will examine principles and theories of Visual Organisation eg: scale dynamics, colour, repetition, and progression with the use of line and tone. These principles are then applied to explore a variety of graphic solutions.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

- be able to analyse, assess, and create design elements and to use the design process to solve a range of graphic problems.
- be able to identify and apply typography in a range of print solutions.
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of some the theories and principles of visual organisation.
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of the historical context of Graphic Design.

Syllabus:

The subject will cover the following topics:

- visual literacy and design principles - problem solving for simple two dimensional designs - colour theory and application - presentation basic typography
