HLT502 Ageing, Policy and Social Construction (8)

CSU Discipline Area: Generic Science subjects (GENSC)

Duration: One session

Abstract:

This subject aims to offer students a critical analysis of public policy and an examination of social construction, particularly in relation to ageing. Particular attention is paid to the complexities of decision-making, professional practice, and citizenship in the context of dominant culture and vulnerable groups within society. A common theme throughout this subject is that of the prevailing social context and how it shapes ideas, relationships, and practices together with the specific implications for older people. In addition, critical evaluation of rural and urban contexts of ageing policy and practice provides a major focus.
