Abstract:
This subject deals with the major aspects of the process of training and developing people in organisations. The theoretical framework is informed by a study of learning theory which then leads into a study of the core functions of Human Resource Development and its application in the organisation. The subject keeps a practical as well as theoretical balance in its approach.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to discuss teaching and learning theories and the use of them to improve training program design and implementation;
- be able to analyse training needs at the broadest levels and use a variety of approaches to carry out a training needs analysis;
- be able to design training programs for different groups using both learner centred techniques and trainer centred techniques;
- be able to explain the different types of assessment and evaluation and use these theories for developing assessment and evaluation strategies;
- be able to deliver a prescribed training program;
- be able to discuss the importance of both supervisory and management development in providing a competitive advantage;
- be able to discuss the concept of organisational learning and the expected participation by Human Resource Development professionals;
- be able to describe the Vocation Education and Training industry and discuss recent changes in accreditation and delivery of training;
- be able to discuss the connection between training and corporate strategy.
