Abstract:
The subject aims to integrate various functional areas of human resource management with business strategy, so as to provide a business orientation in the practice of HRM. Both the theoretical as well as application issues in staffing, compensation, performance appraisal and training and development will be studied.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to identify the major factors influencing the development of SHRM as a field of study and practice
- be able to describe the key concepts relating to formulation and implementation of business strategies
- be able to recognise the contributions of HRM to strategic successes of the business
- be able to describe the ways in which key human resource functions (i.e. staffing, performance appraisal, reward practices and human resource development) may be performed with a strategic orientation, possible constraints as well as prospects
- be able to identify key theoretical issues in the process of strategy-HRM integration and in the strategic 'fit' proposition.
