Abstract:
This subject provides a theoretical foundation for the core learning and development functions, and the knowledge and skills needed to apply behavioural, cognitive and adult learning theories to develop students' training capabilities. Theories and practices in conducting training needs analysis, designing training programs, selecting and using training methods, utilising training technologies, assessing and evaluating training activities are examined.

Postgraduate Students Only. Not available to students who have completed HRM525 .
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to discuss teaching and learning theories and the use of them to improve training program design and implementation (Topics 1 and 2);
- be able to analyse training needs at the broadest levels and use a variety of approaches to carry out a training needs analysis (Topic 3);
- be able to design training programs for different groups using both learner centred techniques and trainer centred techniques (Topic 4);
- be able to explain the alternative methods and media which can be deployed in modern training programs (Topic 5);
- be able to discuss the theoretical approaches to assessment and use these theories to develop assessment strategies (Topic 6);
- be able to discuss the theoretical approaches to evaluation and use these theories to develop evaluation strategies (Topic 7);
- be able to deliver a prescribed training program (Topics 1-7).
