Abstract:
This subject is a study of the theoretical and practical aspects of the commercial propagation of amenity horticultural plants.

BIO126 or BIO127 or AGR156 or PSC102 or PSC103
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to explain the theoretical aspects of a variety of sexual and asexual plant propagation techniques;
- be able to describe the relative advantages and disadvantages of various plant propagation techniques; and
- be able to accurately display practical proficiency in a variety of plant propagation techniques.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
The uses, techniques and relative advantages and disadvantages of:
- seed propagation
- cuttings propagation
- layering
- budding and grafting - bench and field techniques
- propagation using bulbs, corms, tubers, etc
- tissue culture propagation
Residential School
This subject contains a compulsory 3 day residential school.
The residential school provides a hands on approach to the theory taught.
