Abstract:
Students explore the history of aged care, and its relevance to contemporary aged care policy. They analyse the implementation of aged care policy and other initiatives requiring changes to resource distribution or shared values in their own workplace.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to describe how the historical antecedents of aged care delivery have influenced current approaches to care provision;
- be able to compare the organisation of aged services in the 1990s with the current organisation;
- be able to annotate a bibliography related to contemporary aged care policy
- be able to develop a presentation targeted at aged care workers analysing the impact of policy change on managerial processes
- be able to reflect on the position of aged care services clients as central to the determination of their own care;
- be able to discuss the prevailing aged care policy from an international perspective;
- be able to discuss the role of the manager of an aged care service in implementing policy;
- be able to identify how policy management affects corporate planning, performance improvement and program delivery;
- be able to describe ways of enhancing policy implantation;
- be able to analyse intended and unintended consequences of an aged care policy considering the perspectives of the resident, client or carer, facility management and government in facilitating change.
