Abstract:

This subject will develop students’ foundation skills in mathematics including order of operations, signed numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages, index numbers, scientific notation & significant figures, algebra, equations solving, graphs, and problem solving strategies. This subject will also explore mathematical principles as they apply to Indigenous Australian cultures including but not limited to Indigenous Counting Systems, and Economic and Cultural Models of Indigenous Communities.

This subject is only available to students enrolled in the Diploma of Indigenous and General Studies.
 

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

demonstrate understanding and application of:

 • arithmetic and other basic concepts of mathematics;

• algebraic expressions;

• graphical techniques;

• decimals and percentages;
• calculator usage;
• mathematical principles as they apply to Indigenous Australian cultures including but not limited to Indigenous Counting Systems, and Economic and Cultural Models.
 

Syllabus:

The subject will cover the following topics:

• arithmetic and other basic concepts of mathematics;

• algebraic expressions;

• graphical techniques;

• decimals and percentages;
• calculator usage;
• mathematical principles as they apply to Indigenous Australian cultures including but not limited to Indigenous Counting Systems, and Economic and Cultural Models.
