Abstract:

Our mental model of organisation has been evolving from a mechanistic conception to an organic conception. This subject will explore the implications of this evolution for leadership coaching. Leadership coaching has a role to play in supporting organisational change; how this occurs will be examined. Executive coaching generally borrows heavily from a number of different disciplines and how these contributions can be used to support leadership coaching will be explored. Differences between one-to-one and team leadership coaching in a dynamic large scale organisation will also be examined.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

- Understand how coaching can be utilised as a leadership development or performance improvement intervention
- Appreciate the contribution psychology and sociology make to leadership coaching
- Understand the role of one-to-one coaching for leaders within organisations
- Be aware of the challenges involved in team leadership coaching and how to successfully address them
