Abstract:
This subject, together with its associated subject (Records, Archives & Society 2), provides a detailed introduction to the role of record keeping and archiving in an environment where records form an important role in providing accountability, evidence, information and memory.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- demonstrate that they are fully aware of the environment within which any record keeping and archiving policies and practices exist;
- show that they understand the role of records and archives in a modern society;
- demonstrate an awareness of the evolution of various models of record keeping and archival practice; and
- show that they are familiar with local, national and international records and archives policies.
Syllabus:

- The purpose of record keeping - Records in business, governments, organisations and for individuals - History of record keeping - Records and archives policies and issues
