Abstract:
This subject discusses the role and value of research in information agencies. It looks at the role of research in evidence-based professional practice, with a focus on the evaluation of research literature and interpretation of research results. This subject introduces research concepts and practices appropriate to professional practice.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- have a broad understanding of the types of research relevant to, and applied in, libraries, information agencies and other professional settings;
- have a general understanding of the principles of evidence-based practice;
- be able to critically evaluate completed research; and
- be able to apply research evaluation skills appropriate in professional environments.

- Basic tenets of evidence-based practice
- Research concepts and traditions
- Basic evaluation tools
