Abstract:
The subject introduces the issues candidates are likely to confront in undertaking research for their dissertation or portfolio. It provides an overview of contexts within which enquiry is undertaken, and introduces candidates to the role and potential of research in information management and/or information technology. The subject focuses on research traditions and paradigms relevant to the candidate's research project, and the nature of the research process, including planning and designing a research project. Candidates study the use of qualitative and quantitative methods and their application to information management and/or information technology.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- Understand the contexts within which enquiry is undertaken
- Be familiar with the role and potential of research in information management and/or information technology
- Be able to apply knowledge gained to define and refine their proposed area of study
- Possess the research skills and expertise necessary to prepare a thesis or portfolio.
Syllabus:

- Research traditions and paradigms relevant to the chosen research project - The nature of the research process - Steps in planning and designing a research project - Use of quantitative methods and their application to information management and/or information technology - Use of qualitative methods and their application to information management and/or information technology
