Abstract:
In order to develop successful systems, IT professionals need to understand some of the components of the environment in which the systems operate as well as performing the necessary tasks that will ultimately lead to the implementation of a system. This subject requires the practical application of a wide range of project management skills.

Enrolment restrictions:
Available only to students in the Bachelor of Information Technology, the double degrees including the Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Industry Computing, or the Bachelor of Computing Studies (Business).
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to define a problem and incorporate business objectives in developing a project proposal;
- be able to use project management skills to initiate, plan and manage the project;
- be able to practically apply the system development process to an IT project.
- be able to address some of the legal and ethical issues concerning an IT project.
- be able to produce a requirements specification focused on the major being studied.

1 Project proposal and initiation
The context of the topics will be influenced by the specific type of project being undertaken and major being studied. The topics will include:

1.3 Application of knowledge of the major being studied
1.4 Using project management skills to initiate, plan and manage a project
