Abstract:

This subject provides students with a detailed introduction to virtualisation technologies, including VMWare, Hyper-V and Xen and how these technologies are used within an enterprise to achieve various business goals. The subject also includes an introduction to Cloud Computing and its use of virtualisation technologies in both Public and Private Cloud networks.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

be able to discuss virtualisation technologies for Windows and Unix-based platforms;
be able to implement desktop-based virtualisation on a Windows platform;
be able to implement server-based virtualisation on a Windows platform;
be able to describe the essentials of network and storage virtualisation;
be able to discuss the requirements of a virtual infrastructure;
be able to identify key features of the cloud computing approach;
be able to describe an infrastructure for use with a private or public Cloud Computing network.
