This subject gives students the skills required to use Microsoft Visual Studio to develop data-access portions of applications.

Available only to students in the Master of Systems Development, Graduate Certificate in Systems Development, Graduate Certificate in Account Management and Master of Management (IT).
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to connect to a data source;
- be able to diagnose database connection exceptions;
- be able to query data from data sources;
- be able to retrieve source data;
- be able to execute an asynchronous query;
- be able to query data sources using LINQ;
- be able to manage exceptions;
- be able to manage transactions;
- be able to manage data integrity issues;
- be able to update data;
- be able to monitor event notifications;
- be able to manage update conflicts;
- be able to partition data for synchronization;
- be able to map data by using the Entity SQL Language.
