The subject explores the installation, configuration, and management of VMware virtualization software. The subject will prepare students to take the examination to become a VMware Certified Professional.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
be able to install and configure VMWare ESX;
be able to Install and configure VMWare vCenter Server;
be able to configure and manage VMWare ESX networking and storage using vCenter Server;
be able to deploy and manage virtual machines;
be able to manage user access to the VMware infrastructure;
be able to Increase scalability using vCenter Server;
be able to monitor resource usage using vCenter Server;
be able to apply patches using VMware vCenter Update Manager;
be able to manage higher availability and data protection using vCenter Server
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- Discussion of virtualization and VMWare vSphere components
- Configuration of VMWare ESXi and VMWare ESX
- Installation and configuration of VMWare vCenter Server, and using the VMware vSphere Client to manage vCenter Server inventory hierarchies
- Configuration of VMWare vNetwork standard and distributed switches, network connections, and port groups
- Storage management technologies
- Deployment of virtual machines using templates, VMware vCenter Converter, Guided Consolidation
- Modifying, managing, and migrating virtual machines
- Controlling user access through roles and permissions
- Workload assessment, monitoring using vCenter Server
- VMware VMotion migrations
- Setting up of resource pools and VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler cluster
- Setting up of a VMware High Availability cluster
- Backup and recovery of virtual machines using VMware Data Recovery
- Patching using VMWare vCenter Update Manager
- Installation of VMWare ESX
