Abstract:
Students undertake professionally supervised practicums in Print , Broadcast and/or Online journalism environments or journalism-related organisations. Reflection on the experience gained is encouraged in internship reports and the students' performance is assessed by public and private sector employers, according to set critieria laid out in internship booklets provided to students and their hosts.

Available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) course and to those enrolled in the Bachelor of Sports Studies/Bachelor of Arts (Communication-Journalism) only.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to integrate the theory and practice of journalism more closely;
- be able to analyse, plan and undertake journalism tasks as part of a team in a professional work environment;
- be able to demonstrate knowledge of journalism practices in common usage in media environments.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- preparation for the professional journalism environment;
- developing a portfolio of professional work;
- self-assessment in a professional context;
- establishing professional networks.
