Abstract:
This subject develops newswriting, reporting, publication and presentation skills for journalism. Students will engage with increasingly complex reporting and writing tasks.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of the key characteristics of print, broadcast and online news
- be able to demonstrate an ability to research, gather and write news stories for print, broadcast and online
- be able to demonstrate an appreciation of the overall nature of news production processes, newsroom routines, and opportunities for self-publishing
- be able to demonstrate the skills in interviewing for news reporting
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role of technology in modern news production
- be able to demonstrate an awareness of the cross-cultural issues of news reporting in a global media environment.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- news production for print and electronic forms - interview types and techniques for news reporting - newsroom structures and routines - opportunities for self-publishing - current media technologies - cross-cultural competencies for reporters.
