Abstract:
This subject will introduce students to working within the criminal justice 'industry'. This will require them to build on existing knowledge in developing and presenting a policy report after extensive and ongoing collaboration with industry and university personnel. Students will undertake a placement with a criminal justice agency or organisation in order to engage in policy development.

Available only to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Social Science (Justice Studies) (Honours)
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to deconstruct criminal justice policy and rhetoric
- be able to develop a useful policy report for criminal justice agencies and organisations
- be able to critically reflect on criminal justice policy processes
- be able to effectively present outcomes of policy investigations
- be able to demonstrate the ability to be reflexive by maintaining a journal
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- Intersections between policy, theory, development and implementation - Three briefing sessions throughout the semester incorporating pre-placement, liaison issues and debriefing - Industry placement
