CSU Discipline Area: Design and Visual Production (DSVIS)

Abstract:
In this subject students will produce a range of fundamental and articulated components common to the manufacture of functional jewellery pieces. In addition students will learn to effectively solve both aesthetic and functional design problems where the components are tailor-made to suit each individual design.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate knowledge of the technical specifications of primary jewellery components
- be able to demonstrate knowledge of the aesthetic qualities of primary jewellery components
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of the functional qualities of primary jewellery components
- be able to demonstrate innovative application of the technical, functional and aesthetic qualities of primary components to individually designed jewellery
- be able to exhibit a knowledge and understanding of contemporary jewellery and historical developments as they have provided the context to modern jewellery practice
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- function of various findings, fittings and movements - production of a range of sample findings, fittings and movements - design and manufacture of individual jewellery - the adaptation of the various components to individual jewellery designs
