CSU Discipline Area: Design and Visual Production (DSVIS)

Abstract:

In this subject, students will design and manufacture for a range of clients. In particular, private client designs, commissions and corporate jewellery will be dealt with. There will be particular emphasis on innovative design, manufacture and presentation. In addition, students will undertake a work placement.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

- be able to address the requirements of private clients in relation to design, budget and time line
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of the commission design brief
- be able to design innovatively within the parameters of the brief
- be able to design within a given budget
- be able to produce meaningful, readable design drawings for the commissioner
- be able to manufacture within a given budget
- be able to manufacture within the given time frame
- be able to design for corporate jewellery
- be able to produce designs/images reflecting the nature or essence of a firm or institution
- be able to translate the design into a range of wearable pieces of jewellery
- be able to manufacture to a budget
- be able to undertake work experience

Syllabus:

The subject will cover the following topics:

with emphasis on the innovative interpretation of designs reflecting the essence of the commission, firm or institution - understanding the commission brief - designing the brief - producing drawings and rendering readable for the commission - manufacturing within the given time frame - manufacturing within the given budget - work placement
