Abstract:
In this subject, students will be expected to comprehend and apply the technical and creative capacity of the jewellery medium to communicate ideas.
Students will be required to research and develop a series of works that respond to specific briefs. In addition, students must demonstrate a sound understanding of current directions in contemporary jewellery and a high level of knowledge and skill in the articulation of design outcomes. The work produced must indicate technical refinement and conceptual rigor.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate mature and reasoned research skills and design development process
- be able to communicate and show evidence of all progress and thinking toward the outcome in an articulate methodical and appropriate manner
- be able to demonstrate an awareness of historical and contemporary cultural developments that provide context to the frame of reference for the development of original work
- be able to complete a series of designs that together can be viewed as a coherent body of work
- be able to demonstrate a deep knowledge of the medium in technical and conceptual terms
- be able to complete a body of work appropriate to the requirements for a client or for exhibition

The subject will cover the following topics:
With emphasis on rigorous conceptual development, depth of investigation and expert technical production - Development of proposal contract - Research techniques, ideas generation - Design development - Present a seminar on the frame of reference, research, and design development leading to the creation of a cohesive body of work - Innovation and originality informed by an understanding of the history of jewellery - Exhibition design and display techniques
