Abstract:
This subject explores the theories and practices of community development, community building and inclusion as they relate to leisure and health programs. Students investigate the sociopolitical context of community, including equity issues that relate to diverse population groups. Strategies for promoting social change through community leisure and health programs are developed.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- analyse different social, political and cultural meanings of health and health care;
- identify the key principles of a community development approach;
understand a variety of social factors that affect one's personal health;
- relate the importance of leisure to various health perspectives;
- understand concepts of community, power and inequity in relation to health and leisure;
- develop strategies that promote the development of inclusive communities through leisure.
