Abstract:
A comprehensive beginner's subject that assumes no prior knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia. Concentrates on ordinary language of everyday communication, presented as it is used by native speakers, with emphasis on developing aural/oral skills.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- communicate in introductory spoken Bahasa Indonesia with emphasis on basic language functions;
- exercise a basic understanding of Indonesian culture and society.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- Personal introductions and greetings. - Family matters. - Occupations. - Location and giving directions. - Numbers, quantities and prices. - Describing the appearance of things. - Time and various verbs. - Travelling. - Telephoning. - Making requests. - Leisure. - Giving and receiving.
Residential School
This subject contains a compulsory 2 day residential school.
Language practice through group work and role play.
