Abstract:
A continuation of Indonesian I assuming that students have already mastered the most important grammatical features of the language. The subject concentrates on functional-communicative purposes which enable students to communicate in Indonesian for the most common everyday topics. In addition, knowledge of Indonesian culture, society, system of government will be enriched through various kinds of reading materials.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- communicate in Indonesian for various purposes with confidence;
- develop an understanding and appreciation of a wide range of Indonesian cultures;
- communicate in standard written expression;
- read and understand various Indonesian texts.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- Inviting, making polite request, giving suggestions, reminding, forbidding, making compliments, making appointments. - Expressing admiration, giving reasons, refusing offerings, accepting, expressing a condition, indicating urgency, expressing uncertainty. - Asking information: in a bank, post office, bus station, immigration, police station, tourist information office. - Ordering meals in a fancy restaurant, fast food restaurant, small restaurant. - Travelling: purchasing a ticket, making hotel reservation, asking distance, asking the length of time, asking direction, asking prices. - Shopping: bargaining, asking price, asking measurement, asking for a help, choosing. - Hiring traditional vehicles. - Asking ability, permission, possibility. - Making a brief speech. In addition to the lessons outlined, a further exposition on Indonesian cultures, societies, geography are provided. There will be weekly homework to develop writing skills.
Residential School
This subject contains a compulsory 3 day residential school.
The purpose is to improve competencies particularly the oral and aural skills. Activities include speaking and listening through pair and group work, and role play. Pronunciation and grammar workshops. Further access to current CD ROM and on-line Indonesian language resources. Possible inclusion of cultural items.
