Abstract:

This subject involves embarking on a study to Europe to undertake an intensive course in European business offered in conjunction with the Bern University of Applied Sciences in Bern Switzerland. The study tour includes visits to major European businesses located predominently in Switzerland and Germany plus intensive workshops with European students. Entry to this subject is via application to the Sub Dean MBA.

Enrolment restrictions:

Enrolment in this subject is by application to an acceptance by the Sub Dean MBA. The subject is designed for students undertaking the MBA or equivalent courses or having equivalent educational and work experience qualifications to MBA students.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

- be able to to discuss the approach to business in Switzerland and Europe;
- be able to discuss knowledge of the cultural, legal, economic, financial and other dimensions of business in Europe;
- be able to demonstrate skills in dealing with persons in a European environment.

Syllabus:

The subject will cover the following topics:

Cultural diversity and business in Europe EU Institutions Swiss economic and political history and future outlook Setting up a company and business rules in Europe Macroeconomic and business setting in Europe Swiss financial services industry Issues in global and high tech marketing Taxation issues in the EU and tax efficient business practices EU challenges and opportunities: Eastern Europe and the macroeconomic environment

Residential School

This subject contains a compulsory 14 day residential school.

This subject requires a compulsory tour to Europe. Students will be required to meet expenses above that required for a standard subject.
