Abstract:

This subject aims to provide students with an understanding of how human behaviour occurs within organisations at the individual, group and organisational levels. The subject examines the factors which influence behaviour as well as strategies which may be adopted to increase the satisfaction and productivity of organisational members.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

- be able to explain how organisational behaviour theory is distinct from other fields of management study;
- be able to recall and outline a range of theories and concepts about behaviour of people in organisations as individuals or as members of collective groups, structures and cultures;
- be able to relate their own behaviour in organisations to organisational behaviour theories and concepts;
- be able to assess and explain how individuals differ and how their behaviour may vary in different organisational scenarios;
- be able to formulate solutions and strategies to organisational problems using the range of organisational theories and concepts;
- be able to appraise and discuss how different behaviours in organisations may contribute towards the satisfaction and productivity of organisational members.
