Abstract:
The subject introduces students to a descriptive and at times theoretical analysis necessary for understanding: Australia's place in the global economy; the international economic forces afoot in the global economy and the implications for a small, open economy; and how these economic forces will impinge upon the community and business enterprises generally.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to discuss Australia's economic transformation and greater integration into the Asia Pacific business region;
- be able to evaluate the impact that social, economic, and political factors have on the activities of their organisation;
- be able to explain the manager's role in assessing how developments at local, regional, national and international level can impact upon the activities of the manager's organisation;
- be able to critically evaluate the significance of changes taking place in the environmental context within which the organisation operates;
- be able to identify, analyse and evaluate the key contemporary issues, opportunities and problems faced by managers and organisations in a globalised age.
