Abstract:

The purpose of this subject is to develop awareness of and the skills applicable to managing people from a cross-cultural perspective.

The subject draws on information from the disciplines of Human Resource Management, Management, International Business, Ethics and Business Communications and the subject materials are designed with the Chinese student in mind.

Enrolment restrictions:

Students completing Stage's I, II and III of the Bachelor of Business Studies China Program or students enrolled in a Transnational Education Partner Program only.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

explain the scope of and trends in international management;
analyse the cultural context of international management;
appreciate the need to develop effective cross-cultural and cross-national interactions;
understand the differences between operating in an international business environment and a purely domestic business environment;
develop effective business communications skills as it applies to international business;
appreciate the application of such concepts as business and professional ethics and social responsibility from a global perspective;
determine how to communicate more effectively in cross-cultural settings; and
develop and enhance leadership, management and management development skills across cultures and within global environments.
