Abstract:

This subject is designed to examine the concept of the learning organisation as it applies to the managerial functions. Its focus is on the integration of organisational activities to facilitate improved organisational performance. "The Fifth Discipline" pioneered by Peter Senge of Massachusetts Institute of Technology receives particular attention.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

* Articulate the developing concept of the learning organisation
* Explain the essence of a systems model of an organisation, and demonstrate the application of systems thinking to organisational issues
* Explore the relationship between the learning organisation and the individual learner as a member of the organisation
* Explore the challenges for managers in embracing the concept of the learning organisation, and in actually developing a learning organisation.
