Abstract:
In this subject, participants will explore and analyse contemporary issues which impact on organisational leaders. This subject draws on relevant theories of leadership, and examines current research on these issues. The subject examines what organisational leaders need to address as significant determinants of organisational success. Key issues affecting the success of organisations will be studied and participants will be required to contribute to the recognition of these issues through their analysis of leadership challenges.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to provide a comprehensive explanation of the role of leadership;
- be able to critically analyse, in the context of the framework of relevant theories and research, current and projected issues which impact on organisational leadership and organisational success;
- be able to synthesise issues for organisational leaders and evaluate plausible impacts requiring leadership decisions;
- be able to explain the relationship of effective leadership and the success of organisations; and
- be able to develop a leadership plan and implementation strategies.

- Traits, motives and characteristics of leaders
- Charismatic and transformational leadership
- Leadership behaviours, attitudes and styles
- Contingency and situational leadership
- Leadership ethics and social responsibility
- Power, politics and leadership
- Developing teamwork
- Motivation and coaching skills
- Creativity, innovation and leadership
- Strategic leadership and knowledge management
- International and culturally diverse aspects of leadership
