Abstract:
This subject develops an understanding of organisational change, its antecedents, and its management and evaluation. Grounded in key concepts of strategic alignment, the student will examine organisational change from multiple frames or perspectives, at the organisational level. Opportunities for applying knowledge to analyse organisational problems will be a central feature of learning in this subject.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to summarise the environmental pressures that are heightening organisations' attention to managing organisational change in achieving ongoing strategic alignment;
- be able to conceptualise and analyse organisational change using structural, human resource, political and symbolic frameworks;
- be able to develop change strategies that align organisational strategy with the external business environment;
- be able to identify and manage resistance to organisational change; and
- be able to analyse the ethicality of change programs and the effectiveness of change programs.

The subject will cover the following topics:
- The change context - external and internal factors underpinning organisational change
- The contestable nature of change
- Frameworks for analysing change
- Change interventions using a multi-frame approach
- Resistance and its management
- Ethical issues in managing change
- Evaluating change
