Abstract:
This subject builds on skills attained in prerequisite subjects by encouraging students to explore a variety of digital solutions to more complex photomedia problems. The creation and manipulation of digital images is expanded in greater depth to equip students with a sound foundation for producing more sophisticated photomedia projects. This is supported by significant investigation into technical and theoretical issues in areas such as colour, photo-imaging formats, lighting and exposure.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- Articulate conceptual and practical synthesis between analogue and digital methods and techniques in photo-imaging
- Understand more complex methodologies in creating and acquiring digital photographs for application in specific photomedia related creative projects
- Demonstrate the creative application of sophisticated conceptual and practical digital imaging manipulation skills
- Competently operate digital as well as analogue camera systems in a variety of formats
- Demonstrate their understanding the principles of artificial flash lighting and effectively apply these in and out of the studio in a creative context.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- Advanced digital acquisition/creation, manipulation and processing of photographs for output in a variety of photomedia applications - Comparison of analogue and digital photo-imaging methods and techniques - The digital SLR camera and its controls - Artificial studio and location flash lighting coupled with associated exposure metering techniques and camera formats - Colour controls in the digital and analogue photo-imaging environments - Overview of photomedia related creative works directly relevant to set assignment tasks.
