MRS555 Advanced Principles in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (16)
CSU Discipline Area: Medical Radiation Science (MEDRA)
Duration: Two sessions
Abstract:
This subject covers the concepts of physics and instrumentation in the field of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). It briefly reviews the basic physics principles of MRI and extensively considers the physics of advanced principles and techniques.
The following subject topics will be extensively covered:
MR safety, MR quality assurance, perfusion, fMRI, non proton imaging, coil design, MR angiography, MR spectroscopy, diffusion, 3D sequences, MR contrast, fat suppression techniques and K-space sampling.

Continuing students should consult the SAL for current offering details: MRS555
Where differences exist between the Handbook and the SAL, the SAL should be taken as containing the correct subject offering details.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of the basics principles of MRI,
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of the advanced principles of MRI covered in this subject,
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of quality in MRI,
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of coil and other MR hardware designs,
- be able to review and synthesise appropriate literature and relate medical radiations interdisciplinary learning to the broader health-care sector,
- be able to demonstrate how to apply national and international research findings to the clinical setting.
