MRS563 Trends in Computerised Tomography (8)
CSU Discipline Area: Medical Radiation Science (MEDRA)
Duration: One session
Abstract:
This subject examines new techniques and applications of computerised tomography (CT). It is offered concurrently with the practice of clinical CT. The aim is to provide the theoretical bases of the new techniques and applications of CT which are not commonly current clinical practice. Emerging developments, whether they be clinical practice, contrast agents, equipment or safety practice will be examined.
+ Subject Availability Modes and Locations
No offerings have been identified for this subject in 2013.Continuing students should consult the SAL for current offering details prior to contacting their course coordinator: MRS563
Where differences exist between the handbook and the SAL, the SAL should be taken as containing the correct subject offering details.
Enrolment restrictions:
Available only to students enrolling in the M.App.Sc.(Medical Imaging) course, or at the discretion of the course committee School of Clinical Sciences.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
understand and describe the principles of the new clinical areas in CT of CT fluoroscopy, cardiac scanning and coronary artery scoring;
discuss and explain the uses and actions of new contrast agents;
understand and describe clinical implications of ultrafast CT scanning;
discuss and explain any safety implications of new techniques, contrast agents and hardware applications; and
discuss and explain the implications of integration of CT with other digital modalities.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
CT Fluoroscopy. - scanning techniques, - scan protocols, - instrumentation, - safety considerations. Cardiac Scanning. - scanning techniques, - scan protocols, - instrumentation - safety considerations. Coronary Artery Scoring. - scanning techniques, - scan protocols, - instrumentation - safety considerations. New contrast agents. - actions - indications / contraindications, - imaging results. New CT Hardware. - advances in technology to enable faster scanning, higher SNR, higher spatial resolution, Integration of CT with other digital modalities: - DICOM requirements - DICOM compliance statements - integration into a PACS system.
