MRS574 Chest and Abdomen Image Interpretation (16)
CSU Discipline Area: Medical Radiation Science (MEDRA)
Duration: Two sessions
Abstract:
This subject considers the diagnostic interpretation of plain radiographic images of the chest and abdomen. The subject discusses image evaluation, the imaging appearances of normal chest and abdominal structures and common variations and an in-depth appreciation of the broad range of appearances of common types of abnormality. Students will not be capable of giving a differential diagnostic opinion of abnormalities but will be able to give informed radiographic opinions within the scope of professional and legal codes of conduct.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
* Demonstrate understanding of the history and progression of image interpretation in the radiography profession.
* Be able to recognise and identify the plain radiographic appearances of the normal chest and abdomen structures and its normal variations;
* Be able to recognise and identify radiographic appearances consistent with common types of abnormality;
* Be able to correlate clinical history and abnormal radiographic appearances;
* Be able to accurately describe normal and abnormal radiographic appearances of chest and abdominal structures;
* Be able to recognise and describe the effect of image quality and radiographic positioning on the diagnostic effectiveness of radiographic examinations;
* Be able to recognise and describe the diagnostic limitations of plain radiographic imaging.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
