Abstract:
This subject is designed for students who enter university without a strong background in mathematics and who need to raise their knowledge and skills in mathematics to a higher standard.

Enrolment restrictions:
Not available to students who have completed MTH101 , MTH105 , or any equivalent or higher level mathematics subject.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
· be able to successfully apply mathematical skills and processes across a wide range of topic areas;
· be able to communicate mathematical ideas and reasoning clearly and effectively using symbols, numbers, words, diagrams and graphs;
· be able to describe and model patterns in mathematical terms;
· be able to analyse representations of data and make predictions, inferences and conclusions;
· be able to construct and use diagrams to solve mathematical problems;
· be able to make and justify informed decisions about financial situations based on appropriate models;
· be able to carry out statistical processes to analyse, interpret and compare data;
· be able to solve problems involving uncertainty using the basic principles of probability;
· be able to demonstrate the purposes and functions of mathematics in the community.
