Prerequisite(s):
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
Be able to confidently use techniques of integration, solution of differential equations, Taylor series approximation, calculus of functions of several variables, and complex numbers in modelling and solving applied problems;
Be able to use a computer algebra system to assist with their calculations and graphs.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
Techniques of integration; Ordinary differential equations and modelling; Sequences, series, Taylor series; Vectors, functions of several variables; Complex numbers.
Residential School
This subject contains a optional 2 day residential school.
The purpose of the residential school is to provide a set of intensive lectures and tutorials on aspects of the subject. Students will also have an oportunity to gain experience using the Maple computer algebra system for solving mathematical problems.
