Abstract:
This subject provides the student with an introductory knowledge of psychological and sociological principles as they apply to the practice of nursing. It introduces students to a selection of topics from the behavioural sciences and is specifically designed for students of nursing and people who contemplate careers in the health professions.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
* comprehend written articles, both introductory material and literature written for and by people in the discipline of social science
* critically evaluate their readings
* conduct a library search, collect, organise and evaluate information
* apply knowledge to nursing practice
* further develop essay writing skills
* develop social science research skills
