Abstract:
This subject principally focuses on the elements of teaching within a patient education context. A theoretical and practical framework for planning and evaluating teaching is provided. The subject is applicable to non patient education situations.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
construct and defend an argument relating to the nurses teaching role
critically examine learning and teaching for individuals and groups
determine learner characteristics in the context of client focussed teaching
identify sources of information when conducting a community level health needs analysis
plan and implement health teaching
describe methods of evaluating health education interventions
demonstrate a capacity to evaluate oneself in a teaching context
