NUT422 Nutrition and Dietetics Synthesis (16)

Abstract:

Using the principles associated with clinical reasoning and reflective practice, students will demonstrate that they have synthesised and integrated the knowledge and skills gained in the various areas of dietetics practice. A major practice-based, independent learning project will be undertaken and reported in a fourth year seminar and conference program. This subject has no practicum component.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

- be able to conduct or use nutrition research methodology, research principles and evidence-based practice including qualitative and quantitative research methods
- be able to present an accurate, clear and logical message that is targeted to the audience when speaking publicly
- be able to identify and select appropriate research methods to investigate and resolve practice problems
- be able to apply valid and relevant conclusions and recommendations to practice
- be able to critically review the literature
- be able to utilise ethical procedures in the research process
- be able to identifiy and select appropriate research methods to investigate and resolve practice problems
- be able to collect and interpret information, including qualitative and quantitative data
- be able to document outcomes of research using the research process
- be able to disseminate outcomes of research in professional and scientific forums

Syllabus:

The subject will cover the following topics:

- quantitative and qualitative nutrition research methodolgy in dietetics or public health nutrition.
- systematic review of the literature
- critical appraisal of the literature
- evidence based nutrition and dietetic practice
- ethical approach to nutrition research
- undertaking a project involving a research question related to clinical dietetics or public health nutrition.
