Abstract:
This experiential subject enables students to understand and use creative, restorative and productive occupations in professional practice. Students are encouraged to view creative, restorative and productive occupations in the context of an individual's life experience, values and goals, and to develop the skills required to engage with people both individually and in groups. This subject builds on earlier subjects and focuses on life span theory concepts and models of occupational therapy practice in relation to children, adolescents, adults and older people.

Students must be enrolled in Bachelor of Occupational Therapy
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- Demonstrate the relationship of occupation to health and illness
- Develop group and individual strategies to improve occupational engagement at a particular life stage, event or transition in the life course
- Conduct an occupation-centred group demonstrating effective skills in planning and facilitation
- Discuss how values and beliefs about occupational engagement change in relation to different life stages
- Discuss and critique life span theory, occupational choice and creativity and their relationship to occupational therapy practice.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- occupational development and issues across the lifespan - leading occupation-centred groups - subjective experiences of occupational engagement - creative problem-solving and professional reasoning - promoting health through creativity - creativity - creativity in the life span, children, adolesents, adults and older people - occupational choice
