Abstract:

Drawing on the skills developed in PSY201 Research Methods in Psychology, students will expand their knowledge of the entire research continuum that informs occupational therapy practice. They will develop familiarity with differing research and evaluation paradigms, critique published research, and explore methodological and ethical issues that underpin occupational therapy research.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

- appreciate the relationship between theory and research in occupational therapy and the importance of both to the profession;
- distinguish between assessment, evaluation (evidence-based practice) and research;
- understand the differing philosophical and historical bases on which research along the continuum is founded;
- understand basic methodological features of research along the continuum;
- identify a number of key ethical considerations in the conduct of research; and
- critique published research and identify features of a well-conducted and written research report.
