PHC403 Evidence Based Practice for Paramedics (8)

Abstract:

In this subject students will explore the diverse concept of evidence based practice and apply the principles of evidence based practice to the paramedic domain or their own health care discipline. The subject provides a framework for students to become confident with using the language of evidence based practice, develop competence in search and research skills, and competence in critically appraising different types of research evidence. Strategies to champion change and promote leadership in evidence based health care delivery will align with implementing research evidence into paramedic practice.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

· Be able to discuss and engage with the underpinning principles of evidence based practice in the context of their related health care discipline and use this knowledge to champion change and promote leadership.

· Be able to describe the prominent research methodologies pertinent to evidence based health care including other sources which contribute as evidence, appraise the quality of this evidence, and acknowledge the value of each.

· Be able to formulate a sound clinical question for investigation; utilise structured search and research skills in the acquisition of research evidence, and demonstrate critical appraisal skills and reflective thinking skills to promote scholarly professional dialogue and engagement in the context of their related health care discipline.
