Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate a grasp of basic philosophical techniques of analysis and argument
- be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of central ethical theories
- be able to apply their skills of analysis and argument and their understanding of theories to the clarification and resolution of the particular practical moral problems/issues addressed in the Syllabus.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
Philosophical Theory a) The analysis and evaluation of philosophical arguments concerning the practical problems addressed. b) The appreciation and evaluation of central ethical theories applied to the practical problems addressed. Applications - Practical moral problems/issues concerning the beginning or ending of human life, including abortion, research on embryos, infanticide, euthanasia
