Abstract:
Students will write a dissertation of approximately 15,000 words on a research topic in Philosophy, which they will produce under the intensive supervision of a member of the academic staff.

Not for students who have successfully completed PHL405
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- have an in-depth knowledge of the area in which they wrote their dissertation
- be able to devise and execute research in a selected area of philosophy
- be able to begin more advanced postgraduate work in philosophy
In particular, they should:
- be able to master a selection of advanced philosophical literature
- be able to expound advanced philosophical treatments of a topic
- possess advanced skills in philosophical analysis and argument
- be capable of independent philosophical judgement, in their own critical evaluation of advanced philosophical work.
